The thrill of a transatlantic crossing from Gibraltar to New York.
On the third floor of the Galata, which is dedicated entirely to the era of ocean liners, you can explore the deck of a steamship from the era of emigration, passing through an ventilation tubes original wheelhouse, complete with chart room, and the deckhouse for first class passengers, it too an original of extraordinary value as it originates from the “Yaza” yacht which belonged to the Austrian sovereigns, Francis Joseph and Sissi. The lights, deck, funnel, and also a lifeboat (from the era of the Titanic) complete an extraordinary scene that includes many original elements.
But the most innovative aspect is represented by the interactive reconstruction: the steamship actually sails “virtually”. Sophisticated software allows the vessel to be manoeuvred from the wheelhouse, from which an elaborate projection allows the bow of the steamship to be seen in various situations: from navigating the strait of Gibraltar to spending the night on the Atlantic and arriving in New York, passing beneath the Statue of Liberty and docking at Ellis Island.
