The Galata museum offers its visitors the following services and facilities:
A permanent exhibition of 10,000 sq. m., stretching over five floors, with 28 rooms, 4,300 pieces exhibited and 40 interactive digital kiosks.
Temporary exhibitions: Saletta dell’Arte and Sala delle Esposizioni regularly host art exhibits relating to the themes of sea and migrations.
Access to storage facilities: storage facilities can be visited by scholars and researchers upon reasonable request (that must be submitted to the director’s office).
Cultural projects: Galata and Mu.MA staff offer and promote the cooperation with other museums and they organise conferences, meetings with writers and artists as well as cultural events.
Educational projects: Galata offers activities for every school as well as specific educational projects for all types and levels of school.
Communication and Accessibility: all the activities of the museum aim at promoting its cultural heritage and at granting an enjoyable visit to as many visitors as possible.
Counselling: Galata promotes and takes part in planning educational projects, new exhibitions and exhibition management, as well as in offering advice to other national and international museums.

Scan the QR code at the entrance of the room or next to the items and visit the related website, containing videos, audio and follow-up texts. The contents can be saved, so that you can take a closer look at the topics once you come back home.
At the moment, captions with additional QR code are available only in the first three rooms of the museum.
Tactile Map
+ SHOWMiraGenova is the panoramic roof top of Galata. Enjoy a superb 360° view of the city.
A relief tactile map near the glass wall overlooking the Darsena completes the experience, allowing to discover and locate the submarine, the Lanterna (the ancient lighthouse), the Bigo panoramic lift and the Maritime Station.
The relief map (95 x 65 cm) with notes in braille shows the area of the Port and the view of the old town centre.

+ SHOWThe Bussola delle Idee (Compass of Ideas) Bookshop is a transparent room, which is at the ground floor and can be accessed from the glass entrance of the Galata Museo del Mare.
A set of packing cases and navy icons create a picturesque setting and provide a foretaste of the theme of the museum.

Three-wheel electric scooter
+ SHOWPeople with motor disabilities can visit Galata Museo del Mare thanks to a three-wheel electric scooter, which is available at the reception desk of the Museum.
The REVO model has three wheels, is handy and easy to handle, with a comfortable seat and plenty of room for the legs to fit comfortably. The rechargeable batteries have a long battery life and allow to visit all the rooms of the Museum at your leisure.

HIDEAudio guides
+ SHOW40 audio guides – both in Italian and in English – are available to the visitors at the reception desk of the Museum at the price of €1.00.
The audio guides allow you to discover the history of navigation, described in the 28 rooms of the museum. After a short introduction about the Darsena, the recordings describe four ages of the marine life: the oar age, which is the age of the galleys and of the old arsenal; the sail age, with the construction of vessels and then clipper ships; the steam age, when steamships were born and began to develop; and the age of the great Italian migrations, on board ocean liners, as well as the contemporary phenomenon of migrations on board makeshift boats.

+ SHOWIn strategic places alongside the gallery, an audio guide detects the highlights of the museum and automatically plays the recordings. The audio guides are free of charge and will be given to you by the staff at the reception desk of Galata Museo del Mare.

+ SHOWThe RINA Auditorium, with its 99 seats, is an ideal location for conferences, meetings, seminars and conventions. It’s equipped with a projector, a 3x3m screen, two microphones and a radio microphone.

HIDESound System And Amplifiers
+ SHOWThe magnetic induction sound system, operating all over the museum, allows people with hearing aids not to hear disturbances and to hear the sounds at a higher volume. At the reception desk, you can find amplifying devices that you can wear around your neck during the visit. They are an audio guide for the museum and the submarine Nazario Sauro.

BIRTHDAY PARTY AT THE GALATA

The museum offers you the possibility of a treasure hunt in the rooms of the museum –like real pirates – for younger children, or a battleship game – which in the Galata is really huge – for older children.

+ SHOWHere at the museum you can learn about the sea not only thanks to its history, but also thanks to real experiences! Prova la vela (Try to sail) offers you both the visit to the museum and a boat ride – within the port – on a deep-sea boat with professional skippers.

+ SHOWGet on board the Galata Express, the new link for tourists that, starting from 10:00, connects the Porto Antico (Old Harbour) area with the Darsena in Genoa (La città dei bambini e dei ragazzi – Acquario di Genova – Galata Museo del Mare).
Price: € 1.00 for a single section and € 3.00 for the complete tour (€ 2.00 for children).
